One of the most popular girls birthday party is the princess party as all girls want to be a princess. This article will bring together a number of ideas and suggestions to help with putting together the perfect princess party.

Planning for a Princess Party

As with all successful childrens birthday party the key is planning. Spend time before the party, and we do not mean the day before, gathering together supplies and ideas for activities. Spreading the cost over a couple months reduces the impact on the bank account.

A big advantage of holding a princess party is there is a wide range of products available from tableware, dressing up to party bags. Its up to you on how far you want to take it.

Use a themed invite to alert guests that it is a princess party. Do not make dressing up compulsory as some guests may not have the appropriate outfits, though you will probably find most will be dressed princess-ly.

Party Plan

  • Follow the two hour party time plan, so have the first half hour as the meet and greet with an activity that is easy to join by any latecomers. Any activity at a princess party cannot include paints/glue/any form of mess as most guests will be wearing their best dresses.
  • Good first half hour activities that are related to the princess theme would be making jewellery. A big tub of sparkly beads and elastic would keep any budding princess happy.
  • A possible activity for older budding princesses would be doing their nails. Get a friend or two to help as it is a one to one activity. Use clear fast drying and sparkly stickers. It may be best to ask beforehand if their parents are happy with this. Do not do any make up as there are many parents who are objectionable to this.
  • After this activity the meal can be served. Many shops will stock tableware that will use the princess theme. Disposable tableware is recommended for childrens birthday parties as it is easy to clean up and will not break if dropped. However if you do not want that extra expense use plates and glasses that you will not miss if they were broken.
  • What type of food to serve

As your guests will be wearing their best dresses it may be advisable to serve food that will not cause a problem if dropped. It does not create a good impression if you greet a child dressed to impress and then two hours later hand back a child with half their dinner down them.

The cake, of course has to have a princess theme and one of the best to do is a fairytale castle. All it requires is a bit of artistic licence with slabs of sponge and icing. Nearly all themed cake books have a easy to follow recipe for a castle cake.

    The Main Activity

One of the best after tea activities for a princess party is to let your guest to make their own jewel box. This involves purchasing plain wooden boxes and lots and lots of stickers, ribbons and stick on jewels. The best ones to use are the sparkly stickers that are for nails.

Girls of all ages love this activity though if you plan on using glue, paints, pens etc it is best to state on the invite to bring an old smock or shirt in case of spillages.

These boxes can be varnished though be sure to use a fast drying varnish or ensure that they can be picked up the next day. It is a good idea to either personalise these boxes or ensure that the childs name is written on underside of the box. This will ensure that there are no ownership disputes.

If the guests are taking the boxes away after the party then they can be used as a container for the party bag toys. It may be advisable not to put the cake it unless it is securely wrapped.

Party toys for a princess party will normally be more specific than the standard stationery. Go for something glittery ie. Hair accessories, inexpensive jewellery.

But the most important thing to remember is to have fun.
