If you’re someone who’s got a children’s party or special occasion coming up soon, I bet you’ve been thinking hard for a while now about ways you can make the day stand out and ensure that everyone has a great time.

Face Painting

Fancy dress and make-pretend have long been favourite activities for kids, and they love nothing better than to act out as all sorts of cartoon characters or animals. Face Painting is a great way to help them have a fun and exciting day, they can pretend to be a wild tiger, or a rampaging elephant!

To get hold of good quality face paints for the day, you can try looking round local fancy dress shops or any dance/theatre shops that might be nearby. Have a look through your local yellow pages for more information. You’ll want to use professional water based face paints to make sure that the paint comes off easily at the end of the day. You don’t want to send a child home as a ferocious lion now, do you!

Hiring a Professional Face Painter

If you are going to be dealing with a large number of children at the event, you might want to consider hiring a professional to help out. A professional face-painter will charge the same as most other entertainers and can be hired for the day or on a per-hour basis. You can use the search box at the bottom of this page to find face painters in your local area

A face painter will most likely be able to do, on average, about 10 faces per hour, which will be fine for pretty much any decent sized party. You can organize activities for kids in groups, have, say, half of them playing a game while the other half get their face painted. Not all of the children will want to take part either, so make sure none of them feel left out by avoiding any activities that would require painted faces (some sort of animal grouped activities for example)

Things To Make Sure About When Face Painting

You must ensure that the painting is done safely and so here are a few points you should take into consideration. It’s not advisable for a child to partake in this activity…

  • If they are under two years old
  • If they have any food allergies or allergic reations to cleaning items, soap etc. Make sure to ask all parents before a party if there are any medical conditions such as allergies
  • If they have any open cuts or sores on the face
  • If they have any cold sores or any other infectious skin condition

Also, when selecting a professional face painter, make sure that you check that they have public liability insurance and also that the equipment they use is clean and they use professional face paints.
