Activities for the kids

No matter if you plan to purchase the party favors for both adults and children or just for the kids, giving your guests a little something to take home is important. It is a thank you. It’s a sign of appreciation. And, it is just good manners.

What About The Cost?

If you are having a birthday party for your child, you should consider several things. First, are the party favors for your childs friends or will they go to the adults that attend? If they are for the adults, consider using a small statue, a picture frame with your childs picture in it. Or, consider a candle with a cute theme. Giving a gift to your adult party goers should be done. You can give them something that is inexpensive, especially when you purchase them in bulk form. If you want to spend more, go ahead.

On the other hand, if you are giving a party favor to your childs friends, then you have to go with all fun things. A little goody bag is ideal filled with kid safe things. Dont go over board on the candy but many party outlets will provide very small toys, cute games and lots of fun stuff that you can include. The kids will enjoy getting a gift from your child too.

If you are having a small get together with your close family you may not need a party favor. If you are throwing a memorable party, then consider one. This would be for their first birthday or possibly their fifth. If you are giving a large party where there will be many people coming, then a party favor no matter what the age is essential, at least for proper manners.

Organising a kids party is great fun!

No, wait! Come back! I’ll explain!

How many times have you dropped your kids off at a party, only to witness chaos as soon as the door is opened by a hassled mother whose eyes are begging you to take her away from all of this and put her out of her misery?

Behind her, two kids are swinging from the light fittings; another pair are tearing up the carpet, presumably trying to find a hidden entrance to the magical world of Narnia; and the rest are deeply engrossed in a who-can-stuff-the-most-hamsters-into-your-mouth contest!

It needn’t be like that…

As a homeschooling mom of 4 girls, scrapbooking for kids has been on my mind alot lately. Let me back up a bit. My 4 year old was quietly playing one day with a roll of stickers. Afraid I was going to later find a bunch of stickers caught in the carpet, I asked her what she intended to do with them. She pondered for awhile and then said, “I am going to put them in a scrapbook.

Mum, can I have my own scrapbook?” For some reason, this caught me by surprise, as I thought how wonderful of an experience this could be! So, I started thinking about it more and have come up with some tips and ideas to share with you on scrapbooking for kids.

I discovered this profitable home beading party niche by accident a few years ago when I was asked if I could do a jewelry make-and-take craft at a 9-year-old girl’s birthday party. The girl’s mom and I decided on gemstone bead bracelets because necklaces would be too expensive, and not everyone has pierced ears for earrings.

So I came to the birthday party with my bead boxes, bead boards for everyone, a tape measure, accuflex beading wire, little sterling silver toggle clasps, velvet pouches for everyone, and a couple of example bracelets.

If you feel that you can’t quite cope with organising a party yourself, then you might want to consider taking the kids to an amusement park or fairground for the day. This will make any preparation easier on you while ensuring that there’s a great range of fun activities to keep the kids busy

This is a fun and easy project for small kids.

What you need:

1. Cardboard box - With one side open (a copy paper box lid, a shirt box, or even a shoe box are all good).

2. Paper - Big enough to cover the bottom of the cardboard box. It’s better if you can find fairly stiff stuff).

3. Three or four marbles.

4. Three or four paint colors.

5. Sticky Tape.

Before you start:

Be warned, this can get messy, especially with younger kids. You’ll want to put the kids in smocks, and either put down plenty of newspaper or do it in your garden if the weather is good enough.

Method:

1. Put the paper in bottom of the box. You can use a small bit of sticky tape on the corners if it won’t stay down by itself.

2. Dip one of the marbles in paint so it’s completely covered, then drop it in the box. The kid then tilts the box around so that the marble leaves a trail of paint as it rolls around.

3. When the paint on one marble runs out, repeat with a new marble and a new color.

4. When the paper has a nice design, take it out and leave the new masterpiece to dry.
